My Story

The Tools Changed. The Standard Didn't.

I've spent more than 40 years solving design, communication, publishing, and marketing problems.

I started in the pre-desktop-publishing world, working with complex reference books, graphic design, and marketing communications.

Over the years, the tools changed. The work expanded into professional book design and publishing, websites, content, email, marketing systems, automation, interactive tools, and more.

But the part I care about hasn't changed much at all.

Understand what someone is trying to accomplish. Make sense of the moving pieces. Find the right structure. Solve the problem. Protect the quality. Build something useful.

Today, I bring all of that experience together through HeartWork Creative.

Sometimes that means building something new. Sometimes it means improving what you already have. And sometimes the first job is figuring out what actually needs to happen.

A Current Focus

When Your Book Is Part of a Bigger Business

Right now, one of the people I'm especially glad to hear from is the nonfiction author who is also an established consultant, coach, advisor, speaker, educator, or other expert-led professional-services business owner.

For clients like this, the book usually isn't the whole business—it's an asset inside it. Depending on the person, that might mean authority, credibility, visibility, intellectual property, audience, or business development. What the book needs to do is different for every author, and that's exactly the point.

If that sounds like you, the Author Visibility Audit is a good place to start.

Author Visibility Audit

A Focused Diagnostic for Author-Experts

A concentrated look at how your book, expertise, website, offers, email, content, visibility, calls to action, and audience pathways currently connect—and where the gaps are. This is a focused starting point built for nonfiction authors with established expert-led businesses. It isn't full business strategy or architecture, and it isn't a replacement for the Strategy Sprint.

How I Help

01 — Strategy Sprint

Figure Out What Actually Needs to Happen

You know something needs attention, but you're not sure whether the answer is your website, content, email, lead generation, automation—or something else entirely. The Strategy Sprint helps identify what's working, what isn't, what matters most, and what should happen first.

03 — Websites

A Better Online Home for the Business You Have Now

Maybe your current website is dated. Maybe it no longer reflects the quality of your work. Or maybe the business has simply outgrown what the site was originally built to do. HeartWork creates focused professional websites as well as more strategic business websites that need to support multiple offers, lead generation, customer paths, email, or other marketing goals. The website should fit the job it actually needs to do.

04 — Interactive Tools

Give People Something Useful to Do

Sometimes a standard web page isn't the best way to engage someone. Assessments, diagnostics, calculators, guided tools, interactive lead magnets, and other useful experiences can help people understand a problem, explore an idea, or take a meaningful next step. The point isn't to build something clever. It's to build something useful.

Selective Premium Book Design

Book design is still part of HeartWork. I accept a limited number of premium projects—books where the material is complex, the details matter, or the book carries real authority or business responsibility for an established expert. The finished book needs to live up to the expertise behind it. If your book deserves more than a template, let's talk.

What Clients Say
"Ronda Taylor at HeartWork Creative has been my go-to designer for Hugo House Publishers, Ltd since its inception in 2009. That doesn't even begin to sum up how important her work with Hugo House has been over the years. We have produced over seventy books together. Her dedication to making both the cover and interior of the book absolutely perfect is unparalleled. She delights in creating covers that instantly convey a book's idea to potential buyers and award-winning interiors that make a book truly pleasurable to read. Ronda's knowledge of the book-publishing process is stellar. I have come to rely upon her expertise in all areas of book production, including catching those errant grammatical errors that inevitably escape a proofreader's attention. We collaborate on all designs with our authors throughout the process; her professionalism is apparent everywhere. But most importantly, she deeply cares about the authors she works with, never forgetting for a moment the enormous commitment it takes to get a book done. I cannot recommend Ronda Taylor highly enough. You will produce the book of your dreams under her skill and guidance."

Patricia and I have worked together since 2009. First as founder of Hugo House Publishers, where we produced 70+ books together. Now as founder of Girl Power Finance, where I built her connected visibility platform: a full website, the interactive Financial Menopause™ Checkup, email campaigns, automated workflows, and a 90-day content and visibility system covering blogs, newsletters, social content, and search visibility. All designed to give her new business a connected visibility foundation while she focused on clients.

David Brier's books, Brand Intervention and Rich Brand Poor Brand
David Brier
Branding Expert, Author of Brand Intervention and Rich Brand Poor Brand

David produced the artwork for both of his books. I partnered with him to expertly format the interiors, page by page, each one unique. No templates. No shortcuts. Just precision formatting for books that had to match the caliber of his brand.

"Ronda is a 'freak of nature.' I adore her and value her immensely. She's funny, curious, interested, and literate (YES, she can READ and UNDERSTAND!), and comes from the old school of 'Does this design make sense?' and 'Does this make my heart race like a newly discovered infatuation?' She's SO much more than 'a pair of hands' — she's got the pairs that matter: The ability to see both sides of a coin. The ability to use negative and positive space. The appreciation of the word AND the art. And a terrific sense of humor when it seems like there's 'no resolution' to a challenge. I appreciate and admire her. Highest recommendation."

Shadow of Vendetta book cover, by Robert Joseph
Robert Joseph
Author, Shadow of Descent & Shadow of Vendetta

I designed both of Robert's novels and built his current author website, creating a modern home for the SHADOW series, his books, reader content, and email audience. His debut novel, Shadow of Descent, became a Hugo House bestseller.

"Ronda Taylor worked with me to create the book cover and interior layout for my two novels. She and I discussed different options and concepts I had in mind for the book covers. Her creations were absolutely fantastic. We also worked together to create a beautiful and functional website. Ronda is a true professional. I look forward to working with her in the future."

About

Who Is Ronda?

I've been solving creative, communication, publishing, and marketing problems professionally for more than 40 years.

I read. I ask questions. I want to understand what you're actually trying to accomplish. I notice when things don't quite add up. And if I think there's a better way to solve the problem, I'm going to tell you.

I started working remotely long before it was common. In 2016, I took my business on the road. Turns out, you can work from 30+ countries across 4 continents and still keep your clients happy. Not as a tourist. As a business owner who decided her office could be anywhere.

HeartWork is intentionally small. I do the strategic and creative work myself and keep the number of ongoing client relationships limited so I can stay closely involved.
